LandzEdge Recreation
LandzEdge Recreation is an inflatable, on-the-water obstacle course park located in Pleasant Hill Lake and Atwood Lake in Ohio.
Goals
Increase profitability by finding a more efficient, higher-yield business model supported by real time data.
Strategy
Analyze revenue, labor, and guest trends through overVUE, identify the advantages of day pass pricing, and confidently transition from hourly sessions to an all day model while monitoring results in real time.
The Challenge
LandzEdge was facing a common issue for seasonal attractions; the hourly session model was becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. Operating an outdoor inflatable course meant equipment wore down every season, and as pieces were retired, the overall size of the park gradually shrank. Despite this, attendance continued to grow, putting more pressure on the staff and high guest turnover.
Guests moved quickly through the park, spending their allotted hour on the water before leaving. This limited opportunities to create a full day experience and left little room for food and beverage sales. At the same time, labor costs kept rising. Hourly sessions required constant check-ins and repeated safety briefings, stretching staff thin and increasing operational complexity.
What We Did
We started working with LandzEdge after their 2022 season, implementing our overVUE analytics dashboards to give them real time visibility into their operations.
With this data, we decided to restructure their admissions model by shifting from hourly sessions to all day passes. Guests were free to arrive at any time and stay as long as they liked, which immediately reduced operational friction. Eliminating hourly turnover simplified staffing needs, better aligned capacity with the park’s changing footprint, and created a more relaxed, premium guest experience.
LandzEdge also revamped its season pass program and expanded its food and beverage offerings to better capture value from longer stays. Season passes generated predictable upfront revenue and encouraged repeat visits from local guests. With families spending more time at the park, food and beverage sales increased as guests chose to eat on-site rather than leaving, driving higher revenue per guest across the season.
The Results
Increased Revenue
Revenue saw a 37% increase, despite serving fewer total guests. Shifting to day passes generated more revenue than hourly passes, and families staying all day bought food and drinks instead of leaving to eat elsewhere.
Reduced Labor Costs
Labor spending decreased by 15%, while maintaining service quality. This was driven by eliminating hourly guest turnover which reduced the number of staff needed for constant check-ins, safety briefings, and processing.
Profitability Doubled
Gross profit nearly doubled in just two seasons. This growth was driven by higher revenue per guest and higher labor efficiency.
"New Vue's dashboards really helped me see the big picture across the business. As the leader on the ground, it can be hard to see if the smaller operational changes actually make an impact. After seeing the daily dashboards, I was able to see those changes show up in the visuals and data."
